Name: Rosalind Harman
Date: Monday 15th July 2013
My family having lived in Honiton Road, and growing up in the sixties right next to the Kursaal holds wonderful memories for me.
Every night at closing time 'There's no business, like show business' boomed out across the street, we all knew that it was time to pack up and go home for the visitors. I remember the rattle of the Wall of Death as the Motor Bike riders raced round inside, and the draft of air that bellowed up with the movement of the ride. I remember sitting on the wall of the Freemasons Hall and watching the man at the top of the chute pushing the cars down the track all day everyday. And what a thrill in 1963 to be given the day off school and for just 1d the school children of Southend invaded the Kursaal for the Golden Jubilee Celebrations.
Loved it!
Happy memories.
